Should You Reveal Your Budget To A Pool Builder?

TO REVEAL OR NOT TO REVEAL

Once you have decided on your budget… Is it a good idea to let anyone quoting or bidding for your business to know the budget that you have set?

When you think about it… You will never buy anything that you don’t think is good value for money! And you will never deal with someone you don’t like or trust! So my answer is that I would never be afraid of revealing my budget to anyone. You have nothing to lose and plenty to gain.

When a pool builder asks you for your budget, it’s a good idea to tell them what it is immediately. You will benefit even more if you tell them what you expect for your money, such as any extras like paving, fencing, lighting, water features or even some soft landscaping.

Knowing your budget and what you expect will help your builder determine very quickly if they can help you, and if not, they will be able to tell you their reasons why. They may even run away and never come back! But if they stay, they will at least know the limits you would like them to keep within, and this will save you both a lot of time.

If you have the means to do so, you may even choose to increase your budget after hearing what they have to say.

“You need to have some spare money in your budget so you don’t get a big shock later in the project because of having to pay unexpected bills.”

If you refuse to give them a budget limit, you can expect to be very disappointed and frustrated, because in general there are two types of pool builders: there are ones who will aim for the cheapest price just to get your business (which may even include inferior products), and others who will offer you an entire universe of optional extras, the very best of everything, with a price to match!

You may fit into one of those categories, but most people are somewhere in between. Most of us don’t mind spending a bit more if we are properly informed as to the added value we will get by choosing a better product.

What do you think?
